A Soviet sex school for training female spies in the art of seduction sounds like the stuff of fiction: something that Ian Fleming would have rejected as too implausible before going back to writing about exploding pens and lethal bowler hats. In the playwright and screenwriter Yuri Krotkov defected to the West and later revealed that he had been tasked by the KGB with seeking out attractive young women who could be used to seduce men. She was the most crucial cog in the plot to compromise the French ambassador to Moscow, Maurice Dejean, to whom she was introduced by Krotkov in O ne day after a picnic she stoked poor Dejean to boiling point by stopping the car to take an impromptu swim in a roadside pond in just her underwear. O nce Dejean had gone, Lora sat celebrating with her colleagues, half-naked and proudly showing off her bruises. The KGB chief General Gribanov came to congratulate her, but, with a puritanism that seems to have been surprisingly typical of the sexpionage masterminds, chided her for her immodesty. Dejean was blackmailed into spilling secrets and sending misinformation back to Paris, and did so for several years until Krotkov defected and spilled the beans. Lora, meanwhile, was rewarded with permission to live in Moscow, and eventually married one of her many lovers.

Discrimination and cultural attitudes toward homosexuals have pressured them into spying or not spying for a certain entity, sometimes with drastic consequences. For example, Admiral Bobby Ray Inman , former director of the NSA , decided to not fire openly gay employees in exchange for each employee's written promise not to give in to blackmail and that each gay employee would inform his family, eliminating any further potential for blackmail. Just like Ukraine, Belarus is of great importance to Russia, including in political and economic respects, as its economy and foreign policy are closely tied to Russia. Having learned from the experience in Ukraine—where the Kremlin is waging a hybrid war, 15 one dimension of which is extensive information warfare, 16 and maintaining the frozen conflict in the Donbas—Putin has decided to integrate Belarus increasingly into his country and regime. The situation worsened considerably in In that case, the Kremlin would not only suffer in economic terms Russia imports goods from Europe and exports its goods to Europe via Belarus as if they originated from that country.
