The Coronation Street theme tune is among the top 20 songs being played at funerals across the country. The Co-operative Funeralcare today released research based on more than 30, funerals and charts the tunes of choice being played at services to celebrate and remember the lives of loved ones. Blue Moon, a song associated strongly with Manchester City, ranked highly in the football league of mourners. Data shows how humour, anthems from the football terraces, film and TV scores and poignant pop songs are providing the soundtrack to people's lives, making up 60 per cent of the ten most popular choices and ahead of many traditional hymns and classical compositions. Co-op Funeralcare operations director David Collingwood said more people are now personalising funerals. David said technology is bringing another significant change with almost one in five funeral homes highlighting the use of original music either penned by or performed by the deceased. The research also reveals that TV talent show winners fared well with Susan Boyle, One Direction and Sam Bailey all featuring in the lower reaches of the charts. By Alex Bell.
